Initiative for Mtoto wa Shule (IMS)
Description
IMS is a right-to-education-focused organization that provides innovative solutions to the school dropout crisis in Uganda. By tackling school dropout, we work to contribute to the eradication of chronic poverty fueled by lack of education. Our work also contributes to achieving SDG 1: ending chronic poverty and SDG 4: achieving quality education for all.
Founded in April 2021, IMS started work in slums of Kamwokya, a Kampala Capital City Suburb to respond to the school dropout crisis that was worsened by COVID-19 lockdown, among children in Kampala slums.
We support quality education and retention for the most marginalized children put at-risk of dropping out of school and those who are already out of school in Urban slums and rural communities. These include: Children of Sex Workers, teenage mothers, children with disabilities, orphans and other disadvantaged boys and girls living in destitution, so no one is left behind on the enabling right to education.
