About:
NiMSA is the umbrella body of over 60,000 medical students in the 38 medical schools in Nigeria. NiMSA is affiliated to the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association(IFMSA).
The Nigerian Medical Students’ Association [NiMSA] is the umbrella body of all Medical Students (over 60,000) in the thirty-eight Colleges of Medicine across all the states of the Federation and the FCT. NiMSA is also affiliated to the International Federation of Medical Student’s Association [IFMSA]. NiMSA is the student arm of the Nigerian Medical Association [NMA].
There are TEN Standing Committees in NiMSA which are: SCOPE, SCORE, SCORA, SCOPH, SCOME, SCORP, SCOEPA, SCOPT, SCONGA and SCOPI. Each of these Standing Committees have their respective functions. The Standing Committee on Environment and Population Activities (SCOEPA) for example is the arm of the NiMSA saddled with the arduous task of following the Environmental trend as well as the Population of the Nation.
Objectives:
- To expose all medical students to humanitarian and global health issues, providing them with the opportunity to educate themselves and their peers;
- To facilitate partnerships between the medical student community and international organizations working on health, education and medicine;
- To give all medical students the opportunity to take part in clinical and research exchange around the world;
- To provide a network that links active medical students across the globe, including student leaders, project managers and activists, so that they can learn from and be motivated by each other;
- To provide a national and international framework in which medical student projects can be initiated, carried out and developed;
- To empower and train medical students to take a role in bringing about the necessary changes to improve the health of all people of the world.
