Mapendo Children Care (MCC)

About
Mapendo Children Care (MCC) is a community-based, non-profit, non-partisan, autonomous organization which is based locally in the United Republic of Tanzania’s Kigoma-Ujiji municipality. Established in 2014 in the city’s Kibirizi ward, the organization works at the grassroots level with its main activities focused on education, shelter and housing provision, health & nutrition improvement, environmental conservation, and children rights advocacy and protection.
Current and ongoing activities/projects include:
- Housing/shelter (hostels and dormitories) to orphans, street and homeless children and youths without relatives;
- Day care and nursery school for vulnerable children;
- Supplementary education for children with low school performance;
- Vocational training programmes and short-term courses on tailoring, carpentry, computing and IT for out-of-school youths;
- Environmental education and conservation through:
- Fruit and shade tree planting and growing at primary schools, along the Lake Tanganyika and surrounding water sources;
- Drama education campaign for wildlife protection (Play for Chimps project);
- Physical education through WASH program, sports, voluntarism / scouting and arts.
