As part of the Brazil-UNICEF Trilateral South-South Cooperation partnership, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) have been collaborating on an evidence generation agenda, examining Brazilian good practices, public policies, legal frameworks, and programmes at both national and subnational levels.

To that end, they have produced a series of five policy briefs focused on Brazil’s Social Protection system to provide insights for government counterparts and stakeholders interested in Brazil’s systemic and intersectoral approach to social protection and the addressing of multidimensional poverty, particularly among families and children.

The first policy brief in the series presents an overview of the financing of Brazil’s Unified Social Assistance System. Emphasizing implementation strategies, intersectoriality, sustainability, possibilities for adaptation, results achieved, and lessons learned, this document provides a detailed analysis up to the end of 2022, along with insights from 2023.
