Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA)

The Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA) was established in 2018 and officially launched in 2021to advance Zimbabwe’s capabilities in space science, satellite technology, and geospatial engineering. Operating under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, ZINGSA leverages on technology to drive sustainable socio-economic development and industrialization. ZINGSA is tasked with deploying earth observation satellites, remote sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to solve real-world challenges. Our core initiatives include Earth Observation & Climate Resilience whereby we monitor environmental changes, mapping wetlands, tracking drought vulnerability and modeling urban heat islands to enhance disaster risk reduction; develop and deploy a National Spatial Data Infrastructure to streamline geospatial intelligence as well as Natural Resource Management by automating workflows for mineral exploration, agricultural crop monitoring and sustainable land-use planning. ZINGSA\'s Vision is to harness space technology for national development of Zimbabwe. The Mission is to build Zimbabwe into a space power hub through cutting edge research capable of making innovations and scientific discoveries and our Core Values include Integrity, Reliability, Excellence, Teamwork and Growth. Through the South-South Galaxy platform, ZINGSA seeks to foster cross-border partnerships, share open-source geospatial methodologies, and collaborate on co-designed technological solutions to strengthen regional climate and urban resilience.
