Tandil Municipality
Description
About
The city of Tandil is an intermediate town in Argentina, located in the southeast of the Province of Buenos Aires. Located the Humid Pampa, on a set of mountain ranges called the “Tandilia system”. Currently, it has a population of approximately 140,000. According to the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), Tandil is the intermediate city with the best quality of life levels in Argentina.
One of the most thriving cities in the Pampas region and in Argentina, Tandil has a diverse economic and productive structure, with great dynamism and constant growth. Among its fundamental economic activities are the agricultural, manufacturing, metallurgical, software, tourism, construction and gastronomy industries. In the city, the cheese, cold meat and beer production clusters coexist. At the same time, the tourism industry mobilizes different economic segments in the hospitality, gastronomic, and cultural circuits.
Over the last few years, Tandil has started an internationalization process that has given it projection and a great growth perspective on the international scene. The axes of work on this path have been decentralized international cooperation, the promotion of international business and regional integration. This last axis has been a priority for the Government, in response to the need to build a comprehensive, supportive city, open to the world and the region, which guarantees diversity and respect for human rights.
Based on this conception and through the work of the Municipality’s Secretariat for Productive Development and International Relations, Tandil has been chosen to preside over the most important network of cities in Latin America, the Mercociudades network, which has existed for over 25 years and includes over 400 Local Governments of the Expanded Mercosur.
