Mekong Instiute
Description
Mekong Institute (MI) is an intergovernmental organization owned and operated by the six countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS): Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, Viet Nam, and the Yunnan Province and Guangxi Autonomous Region of the People\'s Republic of China. As one of the longest-running IGOs in the region, MI is committed to promoting regional cooperation and integration through human resource and capacity development. Nearly 30 years, MI has delivered effective programs and projects in three thematic areas: Agricultural Development and Commercialization, Trade and Investment Facilitation, and Sustainable Energy and Environment. We work in close collaboration with GMS governments, international partners, the private sector, civil society, and research institutions to implement quality initiatives, foster knowledge transfer, conduct research, and facilitate evidence-based policy dialogue. Our experience and reputation have led us to take on new mandates supporting broader sub-regional cooperation frameworks. Since 2022, MI has served as the Regional Coordinator of the GMS Knowledge Network, and in 2023, we began providing back-office support to the Interim Secretariat of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS). MI is also the Interim Secretariat of the ASEAN Climate Resilience Network (ASEAN-CRN). MI remains dedicated to building a more connected, resilient, and prosperous Mekong region through strategic partnerships and capacity-building efforts that drive sustainable development and inclusive growth.
