Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA)
Description
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is an organ of Federal Government of Nigeria charged with responsibility of running affairs of the Federal Capital Territory. FCTA operates on a functional pedestal of seven (7) Secretariat which handle issues pertaining to all aspects of human Endeavour. Below these Secretariats are several Departments and Agencies. The Secretariats are Transport, Education, Social Development and Agriculture. Others are Area Councils, Health and Human Services and Legal Services. Each Secretariat is headed by a well-qualified, experienced technocrat appointed by government. The mandate of the Administration is to build and administer a Federal Capital Territory in compliance with the master plan through the establishment of an effective and ensuring service oriented administration that can respond to the needs to all residence and other stakeholders. The organization is headed by a Minister followed by a Minister of State, Permanent Secretary. The 2006 headcount, which is in use, put the population of Abuja at 776,298 while the FCT is presently estimated at about 2.5 million. The population is dynamic; day time population is more than nightime. Abuja is equidistant from all parts of Nigeria. It is a symbol of Nigeria’s unity and a reaffirmation of our enduring vision of dynamism and prosperous development. The FCT is administered by a Minister. Mainstreaming Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) In FCT Administration Policies Programmes & Projects As a Secretariat in-charge of policy formulation and strategic planning for socio-economic development in the FCT, the Economic Planning, Research and Statistics Secretariat reviews all FCT policies, programmes and projects to ensure that they are aligned with the SDG’s , and also adjust its action plan (short, medium and long terms) to fall in line with the National Development Plan.
