Alupe University
Description
About
Alupe University, located in Busia County near the Kenya-Uganda border towns of Busia and Malaba, stands as the sole public university in the region. Established through a community initiative, the university traces its origins to a memorandum presented to the former President of Kenya, His Excellency Hon. Mwai Kibaki, on September 18, 2007, by the Busia Community.
Initially founded as the Alupe Campus of Moi University in 2008, AU evolved into its current form following the Alupe University College Order 2015, as detailed in Gazette Notice No. 153 dated July 24, 2015. This transition, supported by extensive intergovernmental and ministerial consultations, marked its establishment as a Constituent College of Moi University. Alupe University currently operates four distinct schools:
- School of Education and Social Sciences
- School of Health Sciences
- School of Business Economics and Human Resource Development
- School of Science
These schools collectively offer a diverse and comprehensive academic curriculum.
The university’s proximity to notable institutions like KEMRI, KALRO, and LBDA facilities presents unique partnership opportunities. These collaborations extend into teaching, research, and extension services, significantly benefiting the local Kenyan community.
