Objectives

The UNOSSC Strategic Framework 2022–2025 has called for the establishment of a South-South and Triangular Cooperation Solutions Lab to “facilitate the coordination, co-design, incubation and scaling up of initiatives that promote knowledge exchange, capacity development, and technology development and transfer while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.” Once operational, the Lab will address complex development challenges faced by developing countries. By enhancing South-South and triangular cooperation among member states, United Nations agencies and partners, and harnessing local, regional and inter- regional expertise and resources, the Lab aims to foster innovative and scalable solutions that expedite the realization of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Innovation Challenge

Evaluation Criteria

Degree of innovation

The degree to which an idea is novel, fully collaborative, or involves the latest technological developments

Impact of Innovation

The degree to which the solution can catalyse global or regional cooperation impact

innovation risk

The alignment of expertise of the solutions provider, to the degree of innovation of the solution

market size

The size of the market and level of competition of the proposed solution

market access & Risk

The level to which solutions providers already have access to the market of implementation and understand market obstacles

alignment to sdgs

The degree to which the proposed solution has a potential impact on the people’s subjective or objective wellbeing

contribution to ss&trc

The degree to which the solution can contribute to existing global or regional cooperation impact  

project team

The degree to which the team has complementary qualifications and a strong SS&TrC Strategic Alignment

Project Plan

The measure of how precisely the methodology is formulated, key aspects have been taken into account and how key deliverables & KPIs are understood

PROJECT Cost feasibility

The degree to which calculated costs are measured to match the independently calculated costs of the project

The degree to which project costs are accounted for, including coherence with the list of costs from the Operational Procedures.

FINANCIAL CAPACITY

The level to which the Solutions Provider is able to demonstrate their own financial resources and liquidity to be able to participate

Funding and Awards

Selected innovations may receive financial awards up to $40,000, not exceeding 60% of the total project budget. The Lab provides data and research support, brokerage, and co-funding to facilitate the testing and scaling of solutions.

Governance and Oversight

The governance of the Lab is managed by a Steering Committee that ensures strategic direction, execution, and accountability. An independent Selection Panel evaluates applications and selects winners.
