First Session of the Regional Conference on South-South Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean, 30-31 May 2023

The first session of the Regional Conference on South-South Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean will be held on 30 and 31 May 2023, at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in Santiago, Chile (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura). The meeting is open to all member and associate member countries of ECLAC.

The meeting will be inaugurated on Tuesday, May 30 at 9:00 a.m. Santiago time (GMT-4) by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and Adriana Cristina Bolaños Argueta, Director of International Cooperation for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Costa Rica.

The intergovernmental meeting will feature special addresses by Santiago Cafiero, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina (video message); Pilar Cancela, Secretary of State for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain; and Claudia Sanhueza, Undersecretary for International Economic Relations of Chile, among other authorities.

Participants will include representatives of government from all 33 region’s countries, the United Nations agencies, programmes and funds, international financial institutions and development banks, regional and sub-regional integration organizations, and the academia.

The website created for the occasion https://conferenciacss.cepal.org/1/en, provides general event information, accreditation forms, the program schedule, reference documents, press releases and news, as well as links to ECLAC’s social media. The site also lists the multiple actors participating, in addition to other information sources.

Registration

Participant registration will be conducted online through the event website from 26 April until 26 May 2023 on the meeting website (conferenciacss.cepal.org/1).

After registration, the system will send an automatic confirmation of receipt. Once the registration request has been approved, a “confirmation of acceptance” email is sent, which must be presented along with an identification document when picking up credentials.

Online registration of government representatives does not exempt delegations from the formal requirement to provide official notification indicating the names of the head of delegation and of all accompanying members.

Officials of United Nations system entities will be able to enter the meeting with their United Nations pass, which must be previously activated, but are still required to register online. To activate a pass, please send images of both sides of the credential to the following email: cencoseg@cepal.org.

Credentials can be collected at the main entrance of ECLAC (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura), on Monday, 29 May from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, 30 May from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Credentials must be picked up in person and an identification document is required. For security reasons, participants will be required to wear their badges in order to attend meetings. Badges must remain visible during the meeting.

Participants are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of meetings in order to complete the accreditation process and United Nations security protocols.

Call for Submission

The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) is pleased to invite submissions of good practices. We seek examples of South-South and triangular cooperation that showcase innovative, impactful, and scalable solutions, demonstrating collaborative efforts among countries of the Global South as well as supported through triangular cooperation involving traditional donors, multilateral organizations, and developed countries.

These good practices will be featured on South-South Galaxy, UNOSSC’s global knowledge-sharing and partnership brokering platform. South-South Galaxy serves as a dynamic digital repository where development practitioners can access solutions, connect with partners, and engage in knowledge exchange. The platform enables real-time access to development solutions, direct connections with solution providers, and interactive learning opportunities.

The call for submissions aims to identify, document, and disseminate good practices that demonstrate the transformative potential of South-South and triangular Cooperation in addressing shared development challenges. By highlighting successful initiatives, UNOSSC aims to inspire further collaboration, foster knowledge exchange, and strengthen the global South-South and triangular Cooperation ecosystem.

        Horizontal Cooperation

        Horizontal cooperation between two or more countries of the South

        Knowledge Exchange

        Facilitates systematic knowledge transfer between for mutual benefit, addressing complex transnational challenges that require collaborative solutions.

        Innovative

        Present creative approaches to development challenges and/or establishes more effective collaboration methods that enhance developing countries’ competitive advantages.

        Replicable and Adaptable

        Shows potential for implementation in diverse contexts with similar objectives, supported by successful applications or thorough feasibility studies.

        Sustainable

        Advances one or more SDGs through environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable practices that create lasting positive impact without compromising future needs.

        Effective

        Demonstrates strategic relevance in achieving specific SDG-related objectives, with evidence of successful implementation, scaling, and positive impact on communities.

        Technically Feasible

        Features straightforward learning curves and implementation processes.

        Participatory

        Fosters shared ownership of decisions and actions among all stakeholders.

        Submission Process:

        The submission process has two steps. Complete the Good Practices submission template (MS Word) and submit to naveeda.nazir@unossc.org; Cc: southsouth-galaxy@unossc.org. All submissions will undergo a review process managed by UNOSSC to ensure quality assurance as per the aforementioned criteria for quality assurance. Once reviewed and cleared, the partner organizations can upload the final submission via the South-South Galaxy Online Solutions Submission Form. Please note that registration on South-South Galaxy is required to access the submission form.

        Interested parties are invited to submit their good practices by 15 May 2025.
