ESCAP/APCICT organized a webinar on “How the Republic of Korea turned the tide on COVID-19 using ICT” on 28 April 2020.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to push the world to its limits, countries are now finding ways on how to reduce its spread and impact. The Republic of Korea has been lauded for flattening its COVID-19 curve through the use of information and communication technologies. Using ICTs in testing, tracing and treating infections, the country was able to turn the tide on the COVID-19 pandemic without resorting to extreme measures as locking down cities.

The webinar introduced the Republic of Korea’s policies and practices on using digital technologies to combat COVID-19 and offered valuable lessons to countries in Asia and the Pacific on how to respond to the pandemic. It also provided a platform for dialogue on challenges that other countries may encounter in implementing ICT-based solutions to fight COVID-19.
